UFC lightweight Islam Makhachev has a fight coming up against Thiago Moises next
Islam Makhachev has been taking shape as an indomitable force in the lightweight division over the last 6 years. The Dagestani man has often been overlooked, but has now begun hogging the limelight.
The number 9 ranked lightweight will now headline UFC Fight Night on the 17th of July. He is set to fight Thiago Moises of Brazil.
A win here for Makhachev would definitely have him competing against the top-ranked lightweights next.
His manager Ali Abdelaziz who owns Dominance MMA Management, had a few names in mind when asked about Makhachev’s next opponent.
Abdelaziz replied to a fan who mentioned that Islam deserved a big fight. He named Tony Ferguson and Rafael dos Anjos as Makhachev’s next possible opponents.
“Tony or RDA next,” Abdelaziz replied.
Islam Makhachev made his UFC debut on the 23rd of May in 2015. He took on Leo Kuntz at UFC 187, earning a second-round submission win over Kuntz.
He then unexpectedly lost to Adriano Martins at UFC 192 via. KO in the very first round.
There was no looking back after that, as Makhachev steamrolled all of the opponents he faced next.
Since his loss to Martins, Makhachev has embarked on a 7 fight win streak, with notable wins over Drew Dober, Gleison Tibau and others.
His fellow Dagestani brother and UFC lightweight GOAT Khabib Nurmagomedov has tipped him to become the lightweight champion someday, and hopefully the Russian would live up to that.
