Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Georges St-Pierre could be in the works it seems
Georges St-Pierre vs Khabib Nurmagomedov could take place rather easily, according to Ali Abdelaziz.
The manager of Khabib was speaking to Brett Okamoto of ESPN about the UFC fight card on 9 May.
One of his clients, Justin Gaethje, would be in action against Tony Ferguson for the interim Lightweight UFC crown.
Khabib, who is the champion in that division, is stuck in Russia. However, he was supposed to face Ferguson before the new match was made.
Khabib is also one of the greatest UFC fighters of all-time but there have been murmurs of St-Pierre taking on the Russian.
GSP, as St-Pierre is called, returned to the Octagon in the Middleweight division and beat Michael Bisping in 2017.
However, he has retired in 2013 after defending the Welterweight title. GSP left on a high with a record of 26 wins and two losses, and Abdelaziz explained what needs to be done to get Khabib and GSP in a fight:
“If Georges St-Pierre really wants to fight, he has to do three things. Pick up the phone, he can call me, he can call Dana White directly, Dana White respects St-Pierre.
“He has to be 155 pounds, and he has to communicate.”
Abdelaziz finished by repeating the three things that GSP had to do to get the fight and wanted the location too:
“It’s simple. Call me. Make 155 pounds. Call Dana White”.
The greatest ever?
There has also been talk about GSP being the greatest ever and that is something that Abdelaziz agreed with:
“Georges St-Pierre is the greatest fighter of all-time. I represent Khabib, I represent many champions but GSP is the greatest athlete in the UFC, right now there is nobody.
“But, he is a very good friend, I have known him for 16 -17 years, I am not going to say anything negative about him. He is a wonderful human being.”
Abdelaziz repeated that making the fight would be easy and all that had to be done was GSP agreeing to it.
“If Georges St-Pierre wants to fight, its very simple, we can make this happen.”
However, the agent did highlight that with all the respect he has for GSP, the Canadian would be a little low in the pecking order.
Gaethje and Ferguson would be ahead of GSP in the list, and it will be interesting to see if this fight ever does happen.
Khabib vs GSP would be incredible for UFC fans. However, the Canadian would need to spend a bit of time getting into shape.
However, Abdelaziz ended by asking why GSP wanted to get into the fight with Khabib. It would be a risk for his legacy and it didn’t really make sense for him.
