Ali Abdelaziz has very often spoken about Kamaru Usman fighting boxing great Canelo Alvarez
Kamaru Usman recently became the pound-for-pound number 1 in the UFC, after dethroning Jon Jones.
His rise to the top came after Jones was recently arrested in Las Vegas on charges of battery domestic violence.
Following his arrest, Jones moved a place down to number 2 in the pound-for-pound rankings.
Elsewhere, Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz spoke to John Morgan of MMA Junkie and discussed a myriad of topics.
Abdelaziz stated that he would like Usman to fight boxing legend Canelo Alvarez in a battle of the pound-for-pound kings.
He said:
“I want Kamaru to do bigger and better things. I want him to go fight a real, real boxer. Go to the middleweight division and go win a second title. I don’t want him to fight some guy like Jake Paul. No, that’s not what I want. I want him to go fight Canelo. Pound-for-pound king vs. pound-for-pound king.” [via MMA Junkie]
Canelo Alvarez is currently the unified super-middleweight champion. He is now set to take on Caleb Plant for the IBF super-middleweight title.
Usman, meanwhile, is the reigning welterweight champion in the UFC. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ as he is known, has defended his title four times so far.
Ali Abdelaziz believes Kamaru Usman can “hang with Canelo for 12 rounds”
As is customary, Abdelaziz dragged his nemesis Conor McGregor into the discussion.
Citing McGregor almost going the distance with Floyd Mayweather on his boxing debut, he seemed pretty sure that a fight between his client Usman and Alvarez would go the distance.
Abdelaziz said:
“If we see Conor McGregor hang with Floyd for 11 rounds, I’m sure Kamaru will hang with Canelo for 12 rounds.”
