Alistair Overeem “excited” at Jon Jones moving up to UFC Heavyweight division

Alistair Overeem has his sights on Alexander Volkov next but the UFC Heavyweight also spoke about Jon Jones moving up a division

Alistair Overeem is dreaming of another run in the UFC to finally capture the Heavyweight title.

The Demolition man, as he is known, is one of the greatest MMA stars of all-time. The 40-year-old has won titles in several promotions but the UFC gold has evaded him for a while.

Overeem faces Alexander Volkov at UFC Fight Night 184 and he believes this could be a run to get the gold.

However, the Dutch star was asked if he though Jon Jones moving to the Heavyweight division and possibly getting a title shot was a bit of a blow.

Jones gave up his Light Heavyweight gold and is now keeping an eye on the champion Stipe Miocic.

However, Overeem didn’t really hit out at Jones and was actually excited to see how Bones would do:

“We are going to see what happens. Francis [Ngannou] vs Stipe is happening finally so, we will see.

“I am excited about Jon coming up to Heavyweight, right, everyone is, I guess. Let us just focus on Volkov and let the chips fall.”

Jones has been doing his bit of trying to get into shape for the Heavyweight division. He has posted several updates as he moves to the heavier division and also shared some training images and videos of the same.

Stipe Miocic to keep belt from Francis Ngannou

Overeem was also asked for his prediction for the title fight between Miocic and Ngannou. This is the second time the pair face off with Miocic, the champion, having defeated Ngannou in their first meeting.

However, Ngannou is a different beast from them and he is expected to be a real challenge for Miocic.

Overeem, however, backed the champion in this fight, slightly. The Dutchman claimed that the earlier win for Miocic was the reason for that but he expected a great fight between the pair.

It will also be interesting to see who Jones faces in his first fight in the division. Jones has dominated the Light Heavyweight one but a clash against Overeem could be an incredible bout, especially if the Dutchman defeats Volkov.

Overeem has won his two fights in impressive fashion and he could make it three in a row at the weekend.
