Aljamain Sterling reacted to him being a clear underdog in his upcoming bantamweight title fight against Petr Yan
Exactly a year after their controversial fight at UFC 259, Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan will square off at UFC 272 on the 5th of March, 2022.
The fight will either headline or co-headline (depending on Alexander Volkanovski’s fight not getting rescheduled) the event at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.
Yan, who was the defending bantamweight champion when the pair last met, wouldn’t have had the slightest idea about his title rolling over to Sterling in ‘such a manner.’
In a fight the Russian was leading in the judges’ scorecards, he struck an illegal knee on a downed Sterling which in turn led to a loss due to DQ.
Aljamain Sterling doesn’t mind being the underdog
The odds for the fight between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan has Yan as the clear favourite. According to odds from Bet Online, the interim bantamweight champion has odds of -310 in his favour – a clear favourite.
Sterling, meanwhile will go into the fight with odds of +260 as a sizeable underdog.
In a recent Tweet, the American-Jamaican reacted to the news of himself opening as a clear underdog.
“Let’s goooo!,” he wrote, adding a celebratory emoji as well.
Sterling hasn’t fought since his title win over Yan. Yan, on the other hand, took on Cory Sandhagen at UFC 267 for the interim bantamweight championship.
He beat ‘the Sandman’ in a close fight that went to the judges’ decision.
