Aljamain Sterling vs Petr Yan fixed for UFC 259
It is now confirmed that Bantamweight champion Petr Yan will face off against Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259. UFC is yet to set a venue for the PPV scheduled to happen on March 6th, 2020.
The fight was earlier scheduled to take place on 6th December, but Yan was forced to pull out then. The Russian fighter won the vacant bantamweight belt by beating Jose Aldo in July 2020 at UFC 251.
This will be his first defence of the belt since his title win. Yan has been flawless in UFC, winning all his 7 fights in the promotion.
These include win against John Dodson, Urijah Faber, and his most recent triumph over Aldo. Overall, his 15-1-0 MMA record is equally impressive.
However, he has a different beast waiting in Aljamain Sterling, and he gave a sneak peek into what Yan is in store for in March.
Aljamain Sterling training hard before his next fight at UFC 259 against Yan
Sterling posted a video on his Twitter account of him training ahead of his fight against the Russian. His fierce kicks are on display and the American looks in great shape.
He captioned the video “I’ll smash this guy one takedown at a time.” Sterling is one of the most in-form fighters in UFC.
He will go into UFC 259 on the back of 5 straight wins, with his last defeat coming in December 2017. Most recently, he beat Corey Sandhagen via submission at UFC 250 in June 2020.
This fight is the second title bout confirmed for UFC 259. A light heavyweight title fight between defending light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz and middleweight champion Israel Adesanya will headline the event.
