Ariel Helwani was speaking regarding the financial problems the UFC stars are facing
The UFC seem to have a problem with their top stars, especially with their finances, according to Ariel Helwani.
The lack of gate receipts is a big hit on the promotion, even though the UFC is one of the bigger sports promotions back in action during the Covid-19 outbreak.
Helwani was speaking on his MMA show and highlighted that something was amiss with the UFC. Many top stars have made big statements in recent weeks, and this “unrest” could be a problem for Dana White too:
“Something’s brewing here DC, Henry Cejudo walks away. Why? Unhappy with his pay, Jon Jones, unhappy, right? Izzy was unhappy very recently.
“All I am saying is something really interesting is happening here. I don’t know how it turns out, if it gets fixed but we haven’t seen this kind of unrest with the top 1% of the UFC in terms of talent in quite some time.”
Cormier accepted that there is a problem with the UFC’s way of dealing with fighters and their contracts.
Jones, the UFC Light Heavyweight champion, has been upset regarding the promotion not wanting to negotiate a fight with Francis Ngannou.
The pay purse for the fight was the issue between Jones and White, and Bones has decided to vacate his title.
Helwani and DC added that the contracts given to the UFC fighters might need to be re-looked into. Cejudo is another star that walked away from the promotion despite being the Bantamweight champion.
Triple C retired right after defeating Dominick Cruz, and that shocked the world. Cejudo is now seen on AEW wrestling and was recently in the posse of Mike Tyson.
Losing Cejudo was bad enough for the UFC but Jones doing the same would be a huge blow. Jones is regarded as one of the greatest MMA stars of all-time and has been near untouchable since becoming the Light Heavyweight champion.
