Anthony Smith was destroyed by Glover Teixeira and picked up several injuries too
MMA reporter Ariel Helwani shared the extent of the injuries sustained by Anthony Smith against Glover Teixeira.
It was Teixeira that picked up a dominating win in the end, but the fight could have been called off earlier.
There also was a moment where Teixeira picked up one of his teeth from the canvas and handed it to the referee.
A few UFC stars also criticised Smith’s corner and the referee for not stopping the fight. Smith had taken a lot of damage, and Helwani spoke with the Light Heavyweight star.
The extent of the damage was crazy, to say the least, and Smith confirmed he lost two of his real teeth too.
Helwani tweeted:
“Injuries suffered tonight: Broken nose, broken orbital bone, two missing teeth and a cut under his right eye. One tooth in front and one towards the back, he said. His real teeth.”
These are some serious injuries and it was a miracle that Smith was still standing after the referee called the fight off.
Smith also spoke about handing the referee his teeth:
“I couldn’t keep my mouthpiece in place due to the missing tooth,” he said. “I looked down and it was on the canvas. So I grabbed it and handed it to him.”
Smith happy with the decision
The UFC star, however, was happy with calls made by the referee. Smith said he was OK with the decisions taken by his corner. He also said he was doing just about enough to stay in the fight when the referee was asking to check him out.
UFC stars have to deal with some real problems while in the Octagon. Smith is one of a long line of stars to suffer brutal injuries in the Octagon.
Several have broken their noses and orbital bones while many come out with worse injuries.
