An unexpected injury has caused Nate Diaz vs Leon Edwards to be postponed
Diaz was set to face Edwards on the 15th of May at UFC 262 in a five-rounder. It is learned now that Diaz has pulled out of the fight due to an undisclosed minor injury, and that the fight has been moved pushed back a month.
The fight is now expected to take place at UFC 263, which is headlined by Israel Adesanya vs Marvin Vettori.
It is still unclear if the fight will be going ahead as a five-rounder since UFC 263 has two title fights, Adesanya vs Vettori and the rematch between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno.
The fight was supposed to mark the return of Diaz, who hasn’t fought since UFC 244 in November 2019.
The news was first reported by Marc Raimondi of ESPN.
On hearing the news, number 12 ranked welterweight Belal Muhammad decided to step in. He tweeted that he was ready to step in place of Diaz and take on Edwards again.
Now, many might feel Muhammad deserves a rematch against Edwards. In fact he actually does.
He took on Edwards in March, earlier this year, and the match was deemed a no-contest after ‘Rocky’ accidentally eye-poked Muhammad, nearly gouging the eye of his socket.
A rematch was largely in the making, but soon forgotten after Diaz decided to make his return.
Muhammad was more than ready to replace Diaz. Still quite mentally hurt from the eye-pokes of Edwards, he has always been waiting for a rematch since that night at March.
Besides mentioning that he was ready to replace Diaz, Muhammad also tweeted that he was ready to give Edwards the Jeremy Stephens push at the weigh-ins.
Here is what Muhammad tweeted:
Muhammad was referring to Stephens pushing Drakkar Klose at the UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs Gastelum weigh-ins, which resulted in Klose getting severely injured. The fight was eventually cancelled, as well.
