UFC veteran Ben Rothwell has been released by the UFC after being in the company for thirteen long years
On Thursday MMA Fighting confirmed the news that longtime heavyweight veteran Ben Rothwell has been released by the UFC. Former IFL and Affliction veteran was tough as nails and always put on a show when he fought.
Ben Rothwell has some impressive victories inside the octagon, that includes victories against Alistair Overeem, Gilbert Yvel and Matt Mitrione. Although no official word has been released regarding his departure, ample sources have confirmed the information.
His last fight was at UFC Fight Night in November, which he lost via TKO to Marcos Rogério de Lima. The past couple of years has been pretty inconsistent for him in which he lost many and won a few fights in between.
What was Ben Rothwell’s UFC record?
Ben Rothwell made his UFC debut against Cain Velasquez at UFC 104 back in 2009 with a record of 30-6. He was already an experienced fighter before making his UFC debut, however he lost the fight via TKO. He won his next fight against Gilbert Yvel at UFC 115 via unanimous decision.
His best run in the UFC came between 2013 to 2016 as he racked up wins against Alistair Overeem, Matt Mitrione, Brandon Vera and Josh Barnett. His overall record inside the UFC stands at 9 wins and 8 losses in a career that spanned over a decade.
With his release now being confirmed, fans are surely going to miss his epic walkouts and entertaining post-fight interviews.
