Just another win might possibly see Beneil Dariush fighting for the title against Charles Oliveira, provided the Brazilian keeps hold of it

Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush earned phenomenal success at UFC 262.

Dariush took on Tony Ferguson in the co-main event at UFC 262. The Iranian recreated something very similar to what Oliveira had done at UFC 256. He mauled ‘El Cucuy’ thoroughly with a ground-heavy game.

Dariush won the fight via. unanimous decision, scoring 30-27 on all three judges’ scorecard. With that win, Dariush jumped six places in the lightweight rankings, landing at number 3.

And, the main event saw Oliveira win the lightweight belt against Michael Chandler. After a poor first round, Oliveira came back as a man possessed in the second round, winning the fight just inside 20 seconds.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Dariush claimed that Oliveira owed him a fight, referring to Oliveira pulling out of a fight against him, several months ago.

“‘Charles, we were supposed to fight’. The man kinda owes me a fight. I signed up to fight him on short notice, and he kind of bailed on me. Now, he’s the champ and I’m number 3. ‘Hey bud, I have the highest streak in the top 3, in the top 4, whatever. I think you owe me a shot again. You owe me a shot.

Dariush was supposed to fight Oliveira on the 3rd of October, last year. But due to undisclosed reasons Oliveira had to pull out of the fight.

Beneil Dariush believes he has the tools to beat Charles Oliveira

Dariush might get to fight Oliveira by the end of this year, if the Brazilian defends his title against Conor McGregor or Dustin Poirier.

The Iranian feels he has all the tools to beat Oliveira, as he believes his ground and submission game are pretty elite:

“It would be a very exciting fight. But stylistically I think I am a bad matchup for him. If you look at our division, I think I’m the worst matchup for him…I can stop his takedowns, I could take him down. I can avoid his submissions, I can submit him. In terms of tools, I think I have all the tools that he has and all my tools are better.”
