In what looks like a crazy stat that Aaron Bronsteter of TSN brought to light, Bobby Green landed nearly the same amount of strikes Islam Makhachev has absorbed in his entire UFC career in the third round of his last fight
The uproar surrounding UFC 49 Vegas is the inclusion of Bobby Green, who stepped into replacing the injured Beneil Dariush against Islam Makhachev in 10 days’ notice.
The famed dominance of Islam is reminiscent of his training partner and mentor Khabib Nurmagomedov in his prime. In a recent tweet posted by Aaron Bronsteter of TSN, Bobby Green landed nearly the same amount of strikes Islam Makhachev has absorbed in his entire UFC career in the third round of his last fight. This stat encompasses the path of dominance Makhachev has embarked on having lost only one fight in his pro MMA career.
Although the initial match-up between Beneil and Islam was slated to be for the number one contender spot, fight week and the actual fight has gotten a whole interesting just be Green’s arrival.
Famously applauded by the late great Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov as the most complete fighter he has trained, Makhachev is the torchbearer of the illustrious Eagles MMA. Much like his training partner and mentor Khabib, he shares the same dilemma that ‘The Eagle’ faced when he was competing – the lack of opponents willing to step in against them.
Shedding some light on the issue, he said, “RDA (Rafael dos Anjos), Tony (Ferguson), and (Gregor) Gillespie, they all said no, Ali told me this,” Makhachev said at media day. “I don’t want to say they are scared or something because this one week before the fight, but I always have the same problem (of) finding someone.”
