Ciryl Gane became the new interim UFC Heavyweight champion after UFC 265
Booker T was left impressed by the movement and abilities of Ciryl Gane after UFC 265.
Gane, who came into the PPV undefeated in his MMA career, took on the home town favourite Derrick Lewis for the UFC Heavyweight title.
Lewis held the record for most wins by KO in UFC history but was no match for Gane. The Frenchman was fleet-footed right from the start and even used some smart jabs to hurt Lewis.
Gane was able to get a TKO win over the more powerful Lewis, and Booker compared the Frenchman to boxing great Anthony Joshua.
“It was something that was extraordinary, impeccable, as far as his timing goes. His footwork was uncanny for a 245 pound man. He reminded me of Anthony Joshua or someone like that in the boxing ring.”
Booker also spoke about the jinx of fighting in front of the home crowd affecting Lewis as The Black Beast just wasn’t his normal self in front of the impressive Frenchman.
When will Ciryl Gane fight next?
Gane now has booked himself a ticket to face the undisputed Heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, and it will be interesting to see when the pair meet.
Booker believes this fight could be the biggest PPV in UFC history thanks to the links with Africa and France.
However, King Booker might have to wait a bit to see that clash. Gane himself spoke about taking a bit of a break after winning the interim title during the post-fight interviews.
The Frenchman does deserve a break after a string of impressive performances and Ngannou has to be wary of the threat possessed by Bon Gamin.
Gane has the power and movement to hurt any of the top UFC stars, and his clash with Ngannou will be an interesting one.
