Charles Oliveira might face Conor McGregor soon if the Irishman manages to beat Dustin Poirier at UFC 264
Oliveira became the 11th UFC lightweight champion at UFC 262, after he defeated Michael Chandler in the second round via. TKO.
After almost 11 years with the promotion, ‘Do Bronx’ finally struck gold. He is now expected to defend his title against the winner of Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.
Elsewhere, UFC lightweight Brad Riddell who is currently 3-0 in his UFC career explained why he felt Oliveira is a better champion than McGregor.
The Kiwi claimed that Oliveira “is a respectable guy” who is someone to look up to, unlike McGregor who is ‘brash’.
Riddell told Submission Radio:
“He’s not a d***head of a guy. He just loves fighting, he is been in the company a long time. And he’s probably been underpaid a long time, I hope he gets compensated for his efforts now. I think he is a really good champion. Much better than McGregor. He is a good guy to look up to. He’s got an awesome skillset.
McGregor is also known for a few controversial off-court incidents in his life, which happen from time to time.
Riddell said:
“Not the shit he [McGregor] gets up to outside. That’s not someone you would look up to, or you wanna be like.”
Some of the notorious off-court incidents involving McGregor are – the bus attack on Khabib Nurmagomedov and teammates, attack on an old man at a pub, indecent exposure and a few more.
With the trilogy bout between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier coming up, a ton of pople from the MMA community have been giving in their predictions.
And likewise, Riddell gave his prediction in the same interview with Submission Radio.
The New Zealander felt that Poirier would pull it off, as McGregor doesn’t have his old motivation and hunger.
“Probably Dustin. Hopefully Dustin. Obviously McGregor is going to make some adjustments. He doesn’t have a great track record when the fight goes longer, but Dustin has a great track record when the fight goes longer…I just don’t see the same hunger and tenacity he used to have anymore.”
