Brandon Moreno defeated Deiveson Figueiredo in the co-main event of UFC 263
Facing off in the rematch at UFC 263, Brandon Moreno schooled Deiveson Figueiredo, winning via. a third-round submission due to a rear-naked choke.
Moreno thereby became the first-ever Mexican-born champion to win a UFC championship.
After their first fight at UFC 256 ended in a draw, many believed Figueiredo would beat Moreno this time around, fair and square. Moreno proved his doubters wrong with a clinical performance.
In a recent interview with Mike Heck of MMA Fighting, Moreno addressed a possible trilogy fight with Figueiredo. He claimed that he wasn’t that interested in fighting the Brazilian again, since he had won the fight in a very dominant fashion.
Moreno was quoted as saying:
“Maybe…The thing is, the fight was so dominant, so at least for me as an athlete, I’m not interested, to be honest.”
Prior to the fight against Moreno, Figueiredo had struggled to make it to the weigh-ins. With just 40 seconds on the clock he managed to make weight.
Since the Brazilian is known for having a hard time cutting weight to make it to the flyweight limit, he himself recently expressed his desire to move to the bantamweight division.
And Moreno suggested exactly the same in the interview. ‘The Assassin Baby’ claimed that ‘Daico’ could probably move up on face Cody Garbrandt, the former bantamweight champion.
He was quoted as saying:
“Cody Garbrandt is there [in the bantamweight division]. He lost the fight against Robt Font, but he’s a former champ, so it can be an interesting fight. I want to see him competing at 135 to see if he can make the weight.”
