If Nate Diaz vs Leon Edwards was wild, Brandon Moreno vs Deiveson Figueiredo was even wilder

Following their bloodbath at UFC 256, which saw the fight end in a majority draw, Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo were set to face-off in the co-main event of UFC 263.

Moreno produced a stunning performance against Figueiredo to win the flyweight championship in a wild, wild fight.

Brandon Moreno vs Deiveson Figueiredo 2 (Bloody Elbow)

The Mexican started out as the aggressor in the first round, dropping the Brazilian to the canvas with a hard punch. However, Figueiredo held on, and saw off the round.

The second round saw a lot of time being spent on the ground. Figueiredo had significant ground control for the first half of the round, while Moreno gained control in the second half.

Round 3 was limbs! Moreno began the round with a superb takedown, and set up a rear naked choke. But ‘Daico’ somehow managed to prevent Moreno from tightening the grip.

However, just seconds later, Moreno came back with the choke again. This time it was tighter than a pangolin. In a few seconds, Figueiredo tapped and the arena went mad. No one saw that coming.

Here is how several pros reacted to ‘The Assassin Baby’s victory:

Brandon Moreno becomes the first Mexican born champion in the UFC

Never has Mexico had a champion in the UFC. Moreno beat all odds to reach the apex, to become the first ever Mexican born champion in the history of the UFC.

His joy knew no bounds at the post-fight interview, as he embraced his wife in a heartwarming moment.

He will now be looking forward to holding on to the belt which has come the hard way.
