“Legacy fight” – Brendan Schaub has his take on Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier trilogy fight

Schaub made an interesting prediction about the upcoming Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier trilogy fight

Conor McGregor will be looking forward to laying the ghosts of his loss against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, to rest, come the 10th of July.

He will be greeted by thousands of fans this time, which has been his strength. The fight is set to headline UFC 264, with score in their rivalry, currently 1-1.

After McGregor had gained an upper hand after beating Poirier at UFC 178 in September 2014, Poirier exacted revenge earlier this year at UFC 257. ‘The Diamond’ knocked the Irishman out in the second round to even the score-line.

And, now they are all set for their trilogy fight.

Former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub had his take on the super-clash coming up. In an interview with Helen Yee, Schaub stated that he suspected McGregor’s motivation to fight, before going on to say that it would be the same result if a “hungry Conor” doesn’t show up.

“I’m just curious about his motivation. I think for him it is about legacy. This is a legacy fight for him…It depends what version of Conor we get. If it is not an extremely, extremely better version of what fought Dustin Poirier in that second fight, where he lost in the leg kicks…It is going to be the same result. I hope the hungry Conor shows up.”

Schaub also stated that it has been difficult for the Irishman to stay motivated. The reason? Money, of course.

Cheekily quoting the great Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Schaub referred to the instance when McGregor showed up in a yacht to the Fight Island hotel.

Schaub was quoted as saying:

“A guy that comes off a yacht in the middle of Dubai. And he’s in Gucci pajamas, it is tough to get up for the fight. It just is.”

McGregor has stepped up his training, and there is not a day that goes by, without the Irishman posting a training video or a photo. Hope it pays off for him inside the Octagon!
