The UFC provided an update on Brian Ortega following his fight against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 266
Brian Ortega and Alexander Volkanovski put on a performance for the ages.
Despite the fight ending in favour of Volkanovski via. unanimous decision, the heart both the fighters showed, especially Ortega, was worthy enough to earn ‘The Fight of the Year’ award.
A whole lot of nasty injuries were suffered by Ortega. His orbital bones were ballooned. Both the eye sockets were swollen. Nose busted open. And, whatnot.
Most of these injuries were during the third round of the fight that saw Volkanovski ground and pound Ortega, almost finishing him.
At one point, many believed that it was going to be a repeat Ortega vs Holloway which ended in a TKO due to doctor stoppage.
After a quick and thorough inspection, Ortega was allowed to carry on.
Had he been stopped by the doctor, we wouldn’t have witnessed one of the greatest modern day fights of late.
