Cain Velasquez’s son’s accused molester to face trial
Recently, after being detained for eight months on attempted murder and ten other gun-related charges in Santa Clara County, California, Cain Velasquez was granted $1 million bail. Velasquez, a former heavyweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, was arrested in late February after he allegedly followed a truck in his SUV and fired shots into it. Harry Goularte, who had been arrested and released on bail for alleged sexual abuse of Velasquez’s 4-year-old son, was the alleged target of the shooting.
It is alleged that Harry Goularte, now 44 years old, molested Cain Velasquez Jr., who was only four years old at the time of the alleged incident. Velasquez Jr. is the son of the former heavyweight champion of the UFC, Cain Velasquez.
According to MMA Junkie’s reporting, both the senior Velasquez and his wife were present in the courtroom earlier today while their son testified concerning the lawsuit. Goularte entered a not guilty plea in June of 2018 in connection with a felony allegation of engaging in indecent activities with a kid under the age of 14, which was filed against him in February 2022. The claimed victim was Cain Jr.
This is an excerpt from MMA Junkie’s explanation of the events, which can be found at:
“After accommodations were made by the court to clear the room of non-essential members of the public, Cain Jr. was brought in and took the stand in the late morning.
Deputy District Attorney Robert Philbrook made several attempts to elicit affirmative or negative responses from the young witness, who was permitted to draw in a Pokemon colouring book during his time on the stand. Cain Sr. and Michelle were present in the courtroom while Cain Jr. testified, but they were unable to assist him in responding to the questions that were asked.
Finally, after a 15-minute recess when Cain Jr. started crying, with the help of a sketch of a stick figure drawn by Philbrook, Cain Jr. said Goularte used his hand to touch him on his penis in a bathroom at Bender’s daycare.”
The son was then cross-examined in an attempt to clear up statements he had previously made to police. Michelle Velasquez then took the stand to testify about when their son informed them about what had allegedly happened to him:
“She said Cain Jr. ‘seemed ashamed’ when he told her about Harry touching his ‘penis and scrotum.’ When she asked if Goularte put Cain Jr.’s penis in his mouth, she said her son answered yes. She said Cain Jr. told her that he saw Goularte go to the bathroom with two other kids from the daycare.”
Goularte’s mother, Patricia Bender, then took the stand to state that her son was occasionally at her daycare but didn’t actually work there. She described an incident where Goularte allegedly picked up Cain Jr. and playfully threatened to “put him in a trash can” if he and the other children didn’t stop teasing Goularte. Cain Sr. and his wife were informed about the incident, and Bender testified that Cain Sr. picked up Goularte at a subsequent Halloween party and joked that he would do the same thing to him.
Daniel Cormier claims Cain Velasquez’s newfound appreciation for life stems from his release on bail
Cain Velasquez was accused with attempted premeditated murder and other gun assaults, and Daniel Cormier was at the forefront of raising objections. When Velasquez was convicted, the former UFC multi-division champion filed a statement to the Santa Clara County Superior Court in support of his teammate and buddy.
In a reunion episode with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Daniel Cormier revealed that former UFC heavyweight Cain Velasquez has grown a new appreciation for the finer things in life since his release on bail:
“I think one of the most telling things that Cain told me when we were in there, he goes, ‘As I sit here and I’m eating this food and I’m taking stuff from the commissary and I’m trying to live, I think back to my pantry and I can’t imagine I can have any of this, whenever I want it.”
Cormier added:
“Something you probably walk past every day in your house and take for granted, don’t even close the door on the pantry. He’s just like, ‘I can’t believe that when I was living [on the outside] I could have whatever I wanted, anytime I wanted, and it’s so much.’ Because it was so limited there. I’m just happy for him to be back.”
