‘Maybe. Why not?’ – Canelo Alvarez reacts to potential fight against Kamaru Usman in the future

Pound for pound king of boxing, Canelo Alvarez hasn’t entirely ruled out a potential fight against current UFC P4P No.1, Kamaru Usman

The latest front-runner in a growing list of MMA fighters who want to transition into MMA is UFC P4P king, Kamaru Usman. Usman had previously expressed his idea of a super-fight against the current best in boxing, Canelo Alvarez.

To Usman’s credit, the headlines for the fight write itself, and might be an interesting match-up for Canelo, who has run over assertively over all his competition.

Speaking with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Canelo said, “Maybe. Why not? You never say no. My trainer told me about it and I said, ‘Well, if you say.’”

Although UFC president Dana White has ruled out the idea completely, Usman has kept his hopes alive. This statement from Canelo will serve as a positive dose of encouragement for the welterweight champion, who is himself running short of competition in his division.

As for Canelo, he has his next assignment set against Dmitry Bivol, for the WBA super light heavyweight title fight, which will take place May 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
