Kamaru Usman has very often expressed his desire to fight boxing great Canelo Alvarez
Canelo Alvarez and Kamaru Usman are just a couple of days away from their respective important title fights.
While Alvarez takes on Caleb Plant in a middleweight title unification bout, Usman will be out to close the chapter in his rivalry with Colby Covington.
Ahead of the Covington rematch, Usman, being the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC, expressed his desire for a number one P4P crossover fight with Alvarez.
Usman also added that there has never been a case of two top guys in their respective sports squaring off.
Alvarez’s name has been on Usman’s lips for a while, and now that he is days away from his biggest night, his statements have gained more traction.
More recently, in an interview ahead of his fight against Plant, Alvarez was asked about Usman wanting to box him.
Alvarez, with a wry smile, replied: “Payday.”
Kamaru Usman’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, in a recent interview with John Morgan of MMA Junkie, wanted to see his client take on Alvarez soon.
He was quoted as saying:
“I want Kamaru to do bigger and better things. I want him to go fight a real, real boxer. Go to the middleweight division and go win a second title. I don’t want him to fight some guy like Jake Paul. No, that’s not what I want. I want him to go fight Canelo. Pound-for-pound king vs. pound-for-pound king.” [via MMA Junkie]
