Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz are some of the greatest rivals in the history of the sport
Nate Diaz fought his heart out at the recently concluded UFC 263. ‘The Stockton Slugger’ was it his usual unorthodox best against Leon Edwards.
Having been battered by Edwards for the majority of the fight, Diaz woke up in the last minute of the final round and almost knocked out Edwards.
His performance despite coming after a gap of almost 2 years, reinstilled the belief among fans that Diaz is still the same old Diaz.
In the wake of this, veteran UFC welterweight Demian Maia who fought Belal Muhammad and lost at UFC 263, expressed his desire to have Diaz as his opponent for his last fight in his career.
However, Diaz’s coach Cesar Gracie recently responded to Maia wanting to fight his client. In a message to MMA Fighting, Gracie claimed that he was not okay with Diaz fighting Maia:
“I know there has been speculation on whether Nate will accept the fight with Demian Maia. Although I have not yet talked to Nate about his thoughts on this fight, I can tell you that I am completely against the idea.” [via MMA Fighting]
Although he was against the idea of the fight against Maia, he acknowledged the Brazilian’s talent and experience.
Cesar Gracie claims Nate Diaz “wants tough fights” and hence names Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz are some of the greatest rivals in the history of the sport. It all started when Diaz stepped in as a replacement fighter for Rafael dos Anjos in March 2016, and beat McGregor, handing the Irishman his first-ever UFC loss.
The pair then went on to rematch five months later, and McGregor won the fight narrowly via. a majority decision.
Therefore, Gracie had a suggestion that McGregor and Diaz should fight next in a trilogy bout.
“I would think the trilogy versus [Conor] McGregor. I know that Nate wants tough fights. He is motivated by fighting the best guys.” [via MMA Fighting]
