Jon Jones has been posting a lot of training videos of late on social media
Jones relinquished his light-heavyweight title in August 2020, after reigning as the undisputed king of the light-heavyweight division.
He decided to move up to the heavyweight division in a quest for new challenges, which UFC President Dana White claims, was a ‘money-driven’ move.
Jones has been packing on the muscle actively ever since last year, but is yet to make his heavyweight debut. Of late there have been a lot of questions as to who the light-heavyweight GOAT will face in his heavyweight debut.
For quite a while, heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou was being looked at as his potential opponent. But a payment dispute with UFC President Dana White, since Jones charged an astronomical fee, prompted the UFC to hand the Ngannou fight to Derrick Lewis.
While Lewis claims that he is fighting Ngannou next, Jones believes he will be the one fighting the Cameroonian.
As for Ngannou, he hasn’t written off a bout with Lewis, but has also been hinting that his next opponent would be Jones.
Former UFC fighter and current analyst Chael Sonen weighed in on the recent confusion at the top of the heavyweight division. Sonnen revealed that there was something wrong with Jones, since he has been training like a madman of late.
He went on to say that he had no idea how someone like Jones is still motivated despite not knowing for sure, if the fight is going ahead.
Here is what Sonnen said on his YouTube channel:
“So Mr.Unmotivated [Jon Jones] who couldn’t be motivated back when he needed to be motivated, is all of a sudden motivated, even after botched negotiation, which would bring a normal person down. There is something going on here. Francis says he is fighting Jones. Lewis says he is fighting Francis. Jon Jones is preparing for something. I’m curious, what it is?”
Derrick Lewis predicts a violent end to Francis Ngannou fight
With uncertainty looming over Francis Ngannou’s next fight, Derrick Lewis, the number 2 ranked UFC heavyweight is hopeful that his next fight would be against the Cameroonian.
Even more surprising is The Black Beast’s prediction for his fight.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Lewis revealed that he would knock Ngannou out in the first round.
Despite Ngannou being a freak of nature, Lewis revealed that he would have no trouble seeing off the Cameroonian if he came in charging at him, like the way he did against Jairzinho Rozenstruik.
