Chael Sonnen also wanted the BMF Champion Jorge Masvidal to face Conor McGregor
UFC legend Chael Sonnen was speaking about how big the BMF title is for Jorge Masvidal.
Gamebred defeated Nate Diaz to become the first-ever BMF Champion and there were talks of him fighting for a second belt against Kamaru Usman.
However, Masvidal seems to have been taken out of that fight and has even hit out at the UFC over their pay structure.
Nevertheless, Sonnen claimed that the BMF title holds some weight for Masvidal and that he should even take on Conor McGregor next.
Sonnen even wanted the BMF title to be on the line next time Masvidal fought:
“Masvidal is looking for something to do. People are stunned he said no to a title fight. Masvidal has a title, don’t forget that. You can say no to a title fight if you got a title, and he does.
“I think the first thing we have to do is to do away with there is no lineage to the BMF, the boys want the BMF, so put some lineage up.
“I think he needs to put it up, let’s make it very clear that Masvidal’s next fight is for the BMF title. I think there is a big attraction there, it worked one time, why not a second time?
“And I do think that Conor vs Masvidal is something very likely.”
McGregor’s retirement
McGregor vs Masvidal could be something that saves the UFC. However, that seems to be a problem at the moment. Masvidal has financial issues with how the UFC is paying its stars while McGregor recently retired from the Octagon.
Sonnen, however, didn’t believe that McGregor would be out for long. The Irishman has shared retirement messages several times in the past, but he has always returned stronger than ever.
McGregor is still one of the biggest draws in the UFC while Masvidal has become a huge star over the past two years or so.
Masvidal won his title against Nate Diaz but he hasn’t defended that crown yet. It will be interesting to see what the UFC does next, and hopefully, we get to see Masvidal vs McGregor soon.
