Georges St-Pierre has teased a second return and Chael Sonnen wants the legend to be back in the UFC
UFC legend Chael Sonnen called out another legend in Georges St-Pierre and opened the door for the Canadian’s return.
GSP, as St-Pierre is called, is one of the greatest MMA stars ever and in the UFC Hall of Fame. The Canadian is retired from the Octagon, but there has been talk of a return.
Sonnen was speaking about why the UFC needed GSP back and he too would want to see it:
“Do we need him? Because I am tipping more towards yes, more and more.
“I will tell you the amount of athletes under contract, which is 556, the amount of shows that are announced moving forward to the balance of the year. It would just seem to me that we are going to be loaded.
“For some reason, we are having a hard time getting athletes sign and agree to contracts.
“I am coming to you with my interpretation, it just appears for all the greats under contract that aren’t coming out and getting dates, that something is going on behind the scenes.”
Sonnen spoke about the problems in the Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight divisions currently, and when the champs could return.
Sonnen also highlighted how GSP could solve many issues for the UFC:
“Georges St-Pierre solves a lot of problems. You want a big fight? Boom, call Georges. Biggest PPV star of all-time.”
The UFC legend claimed that Conor McGregor and Brock Lesnar could also be called the biggest PPV stars, depending on all that they did for the UFC.
However, Sonnen went on to say that combining McGregor’s numbers or Lesnar’s numbers don’t match up to St-Pierre’s.
“We need Georges St-Pierre. We sure as hell want him.”
Sonnen also said that St-Pierre looked in great shape and is capable of winning the title when he comes back.
However, Sonnen also said that St-Pierre had to fight someone big like Jorge Masvidal, McGregor or Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Sonnen ended by suggesting that the UFC needs to bring in the biggest draw ever.
GSP is still a huge name and would sell a lot of PPVs, and it will be interesting to see if the UFC do pull their biggest card out of the deck.
