Charles Oliveira is ranked #3 in the UFC Lightweight division but isn’t speaking enough to get a title shot
Brazilian UFC star Charles Oliveira is coming off the biggest win in his UFC career after destroying Tony Ferguson.
The pair met at UFC 256 where Oliveira dominated his rival. The Brazilian is now on an eight-fight winning streak and many believe he is set to challenge for the UFC title.
Chael Sonnen was also speaking about how great Oliveira has been. He brought up how the Brazilian’s manager has been speaking about a clash against Justin Gaethje and also how Oliveira deserves a crack at the gold.
However, Oliveira has been quiet since the win. He hasn’t brought up much on social media either and that was something that Sonnen brought up:
“That is why Charles Oliveira is not getting a title shot.
“I mean, in all fairness, it is a very sound argument. The guy’s handsome, he’s the new kid on the block and got everything going for him.”
Sonnen went on to say that he wasn’t trying to hold Oliveira back and believed the Brazilian would get a crack at the title.
“I am on board. But when the most compelling things and the most interesting things that are said about him since his biggest win over Tony were said by his manager, that’s why he is not getting a title shot.”
Oliveira keeping his cards close to the chest
The UFC legend, Sonnen, also claimed that things are a little confusing in the Lightweight division. Gaethje is still a top star after a big loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Khabib is the current champion but retired from the sport. However, Dana White isn’t keen on stripping Khabib.
Conor McGregor is possibly the biggest name in the UFC and he has a huge fight at UFC 257 too. McGregor takes on Dustin Poirier and the winner of that clash could also get a title shot.
It is to be seen what is next for Oliveira. A clash against Gaethje makes sense and if he wins that, the Brazilian should be in line for the title.
