Former UFC star Chael Sonnen gave his views on Stipe Miocic fighting Daniel Cormier
Chael Sonnen lashed out at some UFC fans who were suggesting that Stipe Miocic was avoiding a third fight against Daniel Cormier.
Miocic has been away from action after undergoing eye surgery. He picked up that problem while winning the UFC Heavyweight title from Cormier. Cormier had poked Miocic several times during the fight and the new champ’s retina got damaged.
However, there is no set date for a third fight, something that Cormier wants desperately. Miocic recently came out and said he was ready to fight but wasn’t sure when it could happen due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Sonnen was speaking on his show and blasted all those who were claiming Miocic was avoiding the fight:
“That’s not what’s happening. Stipe has come out reasonably and said ‘I don’t have a gym. I don’t have anywhere to train at.’
“He can’t move away guys this isn’t a situation where he can pack up and go train somewhere else where the regulations and rules are different.”
Sonnen touched upon the fact that Miocic is a trained firefighter and he was doing his job during a pandemic being a first responder too.
The former UFC star also lashed out at the “cr**” being suggested that during an interview Miocic said he didn’t want to fight Cormier:
Sonnen claims he watched the interview and Miocic was clear about what he wanted. He was OK with the rules, opponent, fee but wouldn’t agree on a date simply because he doesn’t have a date now.
The former UFC star agreed that finding a date now would be difficult given the situation Miocic is in, however, the champ has agreed on everything except when the fight takes place.
Sonnen also lashed out at a suggestion that Dana White was pressuring Miocic by saying he could strip the champion.
However, Sonnen said that any star could be stripped of the title and this wasn’t that big a deal.
