Talks of a fourth fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier began as soon as the trilogy fight ended due to a doctor stoppage
Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier ended in one of the most unusual ways. Towards the very end of the first round, McGregor had his left ankle cracked.
Poirier then took the W, after he was awarded the fight via. TKO by means of a doctor stoppage.
McGregor started out as the aggressor, coming in hard at Poirier with several leg kicks, before he was dominated once the fight went to the ground.
‘The Diamond’ unleashed bombs on a grounded and helpless McGregor in the latter half of the first round. After the fight, it was revealed that two of the three judges had scored 10-8 in favour of Poirier for his first-round performance.
The MMA community came to a consensus that McGregor would have lost the fight, if it had gone to the second round.
Former UFC fighter and current analyst Chael Sonnen broke down the same in the latest interview alongside Max Kellerman of ESPN.
Sonnen claimed that there was nothing competitive about the first round, while also dismissing the need for a quadrilogy fight between the two.
He told Kellerman:
“You used to count on Conor to win the stand-up portion and (he had always been a) really hard guy to take down and you could never hold him there if you got him there. These were things you could count on. He’s not winning any portion of these fights, and I don’t bring that up to put him down, I bring that up to tell you there is no need, at least from a competitive architecture, there is nothing here that warrants seeing these guys do it again.”
YouTuber Jake Paul delivered Dustin Poirier the $100,000 worth Sleepy Conor McGregor chain as promised.
Once Poirier received it, he posted a photo on social media sporting the chain. ‘The Diamond’ also pledged that he would be auctioning it off to the ‘Good Fight Foundation.’
“Got the sleepy mac chain today from @jakepaul I will be auctioning it off soon for @TheGoodFightFDN To do something big in Lafayette!!”
