Conor McGregor is one of the greatest MMA stars of all-time and his legend just keeps on growing
Former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor is in action on Saturday as he faces Dustin Poirier at UFC 257.
This is a rematch from their clash almost seven years back, and the winner could get a shot at the Lightweight title.
McGregor is one of the biggest names in the UFC and there are several stories that add to his legacy. The Irishman is also one of the highest paid UFC athletes but he seems to just be able to do special things throughout his career.
His last fight was a win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. This was his return fight after losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov and McGregor beat Cerrone in 40 seconds.
However, there was more to that and Chael Sonnen shared an incredible backstage story about this.
The UFC legend added that prior to the third fight on the main card there was a long break and people had to fill in.
It was revealed that McGregor wasn’t in the building since he drives himself in Las Vegas.
Normally stars have to be in the arena much before their fight, something that the UFC shows all the time. However, this wasn’t McGregor. He would bring over his entire posse and he was to report just before the main card would go on.
McGregor was to show up at 7PM but he wasn’t there. That was a problem since there are a lot of things to be done like wrapping of the hands and also drug test by the commission.
“Conor pulls in 40 minutes before his fight. They start the third fight, they start the fourth fight, Conor is able to walk in time.
“Within that 40 minutes, he takes off his suit, he looks fantastic. Somewhere does his drugs test, some how wraps his hands, puts the cup on and the mouthpiece.
“I guess that he warmed up. He did all of that within his music hitting the speakers, walked out, stopped his opponent and was done and out of the arena in less than an hour.”
Sonnen added that he wanted to share this story because it was “cool”, “awesome” and people didn’t know it.
The UFC legend also claimed that this added to the legend of McGregor. Sonnen lauded how cool and collected McGregor was in all this despite a sold out arena waiting for him.
The Irishman certainly knows how to deal with pressure and he seems relaxed ahead of this latest fight. Whether McGregor wins it or not, he will remain one of the greatest ever in the history of the sport.
