Charles Oliveira keen on becoming two-division UFC Champion

Charles Oliveira is the current Lightweight Champion and has his eye set for more gold

Charles Oliveira has already set a lofty goal for himself after picking up the UFC Lightweight title.

The Brazilian defended his gold in incredible fashion against Dustin Poirier at UFC 269. However, Do Bronx isn’t done with just one belt.

Charles Oliveira defeated Michael Chandler at UFC 262 to become the Lightweight champion (UFC)

Oliveira was on a Portuguese podcast and spoke about challenging for another title. The Brazilian brought up Alexander Volkanovski, the Featherweight Champion, and Kamaru Usman, the Welterweight Champion (h/t MMA Fighting):

“If I had the opportunity to go straight for the 145 belt, I’d move down to fight,” Oliveira said. “Also, if I had the opportunity to go straight for the 170 belt, I’d also move up to fight, but I believe it’s more viable to [drop down] to 145 instead of going to 170 at this moment.”

Oliveira has fought in both divisions but has also missed weight a few times in his career. However, facing either Volkanovski and Usman is a tough task. Nevertheless, Oliveira is still dreaming of becoming a two-division champion.

“Becoming a two-division champion, a Brazilian man, would be awesome,” Oliveira said.

What is next for Charles Oliveira?

The Brazilian might be keen on taking on Volkanovski but the Australian is undefeated in his UFC career. The same can be said about Usman, who is the reigning Welterweight Champion.

Oliveira, however, must keep a close eye on his division as well. Justin Gaethje seems likely to be the next opponent for Do Bronx.

Gaethje had his chance to win undisputed gold but Khabib Nurmagomedov ended that before retiring from MMA.

Of course, there could be a spanner in the works with Conor McGregor waiting in the wings. The Irishman might be on a two-fight losing streak. However, Oliveira responded to McGregor’s recent call out and you can never rule out Notorious from getting a fight that he wants.
