Charles Oliveira vs Nate Diaz is off the cards

Earlier this week, UFC fighter Nate Diaz spoke in an interview that he wants to fight ‘winners’ such as Charles Oliveira.

Now that wasn’t really a big surprise. ‘The Stockton Slugger’ is often calling out guys he probably knows would not reciprocate his interest.

This is partly how he has managed to stay relevant despite not fighting in well over a year. And in all fairness to him, he is still a needle mover.

On the latest episode of the ESPN MMA talk show on YouTube, host Ariel Helwani revealed that Oliveira’s team had responded to Diaz’s offer.

Unsurprisingly, ‘Du Bronx’ is not interested in a fight against the American. After all, Oliveira is one of the biggest names in UFC right now and would rather want a title shot.

“And I spoke to Oliveira’s team by the way and they are hell-bent on fighting for the belt next. So it looks like there is not going to be a lot of interest there from their side, even though I know the UFC was very interested in making that fight at 155.”

Charles Oliveira should target UFC gold instead of fighting Nate Diaz

So it looks that fight is off the cards. And to be honest, not a lot of MMA fans would have thought that it was ever going to be on to begin with.

The Brazilian is in the form of his life and the lightweight division is wide open. Despite Poirier beating Conor McGregor at UFC 257, there is still no solid talks of him getting a title fight.

‘The Diamond’ has himself spoken about his desire of completing a trilogy with ‘The Notorious One’.

In such a situation, Du Bronx would be waiting for his chance to pounce at any title shot rather than fight someone like Diaz.
