Marlon Chito Vera has drawn inspiration from UFC heavyweight Jon Jones was a world-beater at the light-heavyweight division
Marlon Chito Vera showed warrior mentality during the recently concluded fight against Davey Grant.
The Ecuadorian won the bloodbath via. unanimous decision scoring 29-27, 29-28, 30-27. He also exacted revenge against the Englishman, against whom he lost via. unanimous decision back in 2016.
During the fight yesterday, Vera executed several elbows to perfections. At the UFC Vegas 29 post-show, he explained that he was inspired by the light-heavyweight GOAT himself – Jon Jones.
Vera was quoted as saying:
“The elbows is something that I worked basically my whole life. I love the elbows. I was inspired by Jon Jones when I was a kid. Who throws better elbows than Jonny Bones? I just love the fact they make you bleed. I feel the fighters break and I feel that they don’t like them; I love that.”
Jones is very well known for his elbows, and he is often seen using them as a major weapon in his fights.
Following his stunning performance against Davey Grant, Marlon Vera called out former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz who was by the ringside as the commentator.
Vera is currently ranked number 15 in the bantamweight division, but the win against Grant will propel him at least two or three places ahead.
Cruz, on the other hand last fought Casey Kenney at UFC 259, and won via. a narrow split decision. He is currently ranked number 9 in the bantamweight rankings.
A fight between the pair surely makes sense and Vera would be the perfect opponent for Cruz to test – whether he has got his old fighting form still in him.
