Chris Weidman wasn’t interested in facing Marvin Vettori

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman slammed the door on Marvin Vettori getting into the Octagon with him.

Weidman’s career went a little off the grid after he defeated Anderson Silva for the title. He lost the crown to Luke Rockhold and then went on a losing spree.

Weidman even tried to fight in the Light Heavyweight division but he lost the clash. However, the 36-year-old returned to his Middleweight division at UFC: Oleinik vs Lewis and got the win over Omari Akhmedov.

Vettori saw that win and called out Weidman, even suggesting that he could get the better of the former champion by the second round.

The Italian has been searching for a new opponent after Karl Robertson and he believed this would be the ideal fight.

The 26-year-old called out Weidman again on social media, but the former champion shut the Italian down.

Weidman told Vettori to fight get a win over someone in the top 15, and added he wasn’t going to fight until he was ready.

He also added that Vettori wasn’t all that great a fight:

Vettori can’t get a fight

The Italian Dream had earlier claimed that he was to fight someone in the top 10. However, after accepting the clash, the match was called off instantly.

While Weidman wanted to Vettori to fight someone in the top 15, Vettori shared his problems. The Italian added that no one was ready to fight him and he wanted a former champion on his list of defeated opponents:

Weidman certainly has had his problems and he is 2-5 in his last seven clashes. Vettori, for his part, is 15-4-1 in his MMA career and has won his last three fights.

The Italian also lost a close bout to future Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya earlier in his UFC career.

It will be interesting to see if a clash between the two does take place. The match would be a huge boost for Vettori’s career while Weidman would lose a lot if he was to miss out on beating the Italian.
