Chris Weidman suffered a nasty leg injury at UFC 261, against Uriah Hall
Weidman came into UFC 261 with a lot of hopes. The All American was set to go on another surge at the middleweight title. But destiny had some other plans.
Just 17 seconds into the first round of his fight against Uriah Hall, he snapped his leg, just like Anderson Silva had snapped his, against Weidman in 2013.
Weidman fell to the canvas, his leg looking rubbery and slithery, as he grimaced and writhed in pain. Officials rushed to the spot, and Weidman was taken to the hospital the next day.
He underwent surgery the next day, and now has been recovering .
In a recent video on his own YouTube channel, Weidman broke down explaining the extent of his injury.
The All American had documented his recovery and premiered it as a video on his channel. Speaking on the 29th of April which runs for a large part of the video, and Weidman got emotional over his fears about his future.
Weidman says:
“I don’t know what’s going to happen. My foot is still numb. Hoping that comes back and I can move it the way I moved it before the fight. I’ve had 23 surgeries in my life but there’s nothing that’s stopped me but am I going to have the motivation and the passion to push through this long process again? It’s kind of scary. I don’t know.” [via MMA Fighting]
Since April 29 [the day predominantly featured in the video], Weidman has been recovering and progressing quite steadily. He was recently seen walking on a zero-gravity treadmill, which is remarkable progress, given such a short period of time.
He recently took to Instagram to post a picture of both his legs. His operated leg was hued in red, due to blood finding difficulty in traveling up the body (because of the damaged blood vessels).
Weidman wrote:
“Pain is getting way more tolerable while standing; thank God! The blood flows into my leg is still insane when I have to get up, as you can see the difference in colours. The doctor said because blood vessels and veins are damaged from the trauma, the blood has a hard time travelling back up the body, fighting gravity. Again thank you for all the love and support. Blown away!”
Weidman will also be looking up to Anderson Silva as his inspiration. The Brazilian who suffered a similar injury in December 2013, came back just a year later at UFC 183 in January 2015. Hope the All American is back soon!
