Chris Weidman ripped into fans on Twitter who claimed that The All American was seen celebrating after Anderson Silva’s leg break.
Weidman was brimming with confidence going into his fight against Uriah Hall at UFC 261. The All American was coming off a dominant win over Omari Akhmedov in August 2020.
But, little did Weidman know what was in store for him. Just 17 seconds into his fight with Hall, Weidman’s leg snapped and bent like a bow when he landed. The fight was immediately waved off and was awarded to Hall, who hadn’t even landed a single strike.
Weidman, was left grimacing in pain as he was stretchered off to the hospital for surgery. And now, it has been two days and the All American has already undergone an operation and seems to be recovering.
Weidman’s injury brought back memories of Anderson Silva’s injury at UFC 168. And coincidentally, it was Weidman who was Silva’s opponent. Silva suffered an eerily similar injury in the second round of their fight, leading to Weidman’s victory.
Weidman can be seen celebrating quite wildly after his win, but little did he know that the ‘Spider’ had broken his leg. However, he quickly gets down to check on Silva.
More recently, he hit back at fans who claimed that Hall was a lot classier in his victory than Weidman was at UFC 168.
Quote tweeting MMA reporter Jesse Schekner’s Tweet which showed a photo of Weidman showing his concern for Silva, Weidman explained that he didn’t know Silva’s leg had snapped. Weidman had thought that it was a properly checked leg kick that caused Silva to go down in pain.
Weidman goes on to say that he had realized he had broken his leg only after hearing him yell non-stop while holding his leg in place. The All American further explains that he had no happiness after that point.
Chris Weidman shares an update where he can be seen walking
Weidman shared an update from the hospital, where he could be seen walking with the help of a physical therapy team.
He then revealed that he had been having trouble urinating due to the overload of anaesthetics and painkillers.
Realizing that he had to get a catheter, Weidman explained that he had somehow forced the urine out.
It will take a while before Weidman gets up and running. In fact, Anderson Silva returned to action after more than a year, since he got injured, which was in turn deemed to be a no-contest as the Brazilian tested positive for Drostanolone and Androsterone.
