CM Punk believes Conor McGregor could be in line to making a move to the wrestling world
CM Punk and Conor McGregor are two of the biggest stars in their respective fields. Punk is now starring at AEW after a few years away from wrestling while McGregor is still one of the biggest names in the world of MMA.
The Irishman, who recently lost to Dustin Poirier, has been out of action due to a broken ankle. Nevertheless, McGregor has always been linked with a move to the wrestling world and Punk knows about both.
Punk tried his luck at MMA but didn’t win either of his two bouts. The now AEW star is enjoying a great run under Tony Khan, and opened up on another pair of stars doing their thing in boxing.
Jake and Logan Paul have been the talk of the combat sports world.
Jake recently knocked out former UFC star Tyron Woodley and Punk suggested that the Paul brothers were doing some part of “old school pro wrestling.”
Punk was speaking to ESPN SportsNation (h/t Bloody Elbow) and also brought up the similarities between the wrestling world and other combat sports.
Punk also spoke about Floyd Mayweather making his way to WWE. He also claimed that McGregor would certainly follow in the footsteps of others from the fight game:
“A lot of the times — a lot of the sacrifice goes unnoticed. But it’s what it is. When [Floyd] Mayweather crossed over and did a match at WrestleMania, I’m sure we’re eventually going to see [Conor] McGregor come over… [Ronda] Rousey was excellent when she came over. The bottom line is making money. If you’re making money, you’re technically not really doing anything wrong.”
Conor McGregor to follow Ronda Rousey into WWE?
McGregor is one of the biggest trash talkers in the world of MMA, and it will be interesting to see what is next for him.
The Irishman’s a former two-division UFC Champion. However, his star has waned a bit in recent years. McGregor has lost his last two fights and hasn’t looked to be in great touch.
He could follow the footsteps of Rousey and make a splash in WWE. McGregor certainly has the mouth to star in WWE, and he could do a decent job on the wrestling front too.
