Khabib Nurmagomedov and Kamaru Usman are some of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time
Talks about Khabib Nurmagomedov inside the Octagon never die down, despite the Russian having announced his retirement almost a year ago.
‘The Eagle’ announced his retirement after beating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in October 2020.
Although there were talks of a fight against the great Georges St-Pierre, none of such things materialized and Khabib didn’t seem interested as well. He remained true to his word.
There were also speculations of a fight against welterweight champ Kamaru Usman.
In a recent fan Q&A on his own YouTube channel, Coach Javier Mendez revealed if Khabib and Usman have ever sparred at least once, before going on to answer who among them was the stronger one.
Mendez was quoted as saying:
“I mean they’re interesting. Unfortunately for me, we did train with Kamaru. But, I’ve never seen him and Khabib do anything. So, no. They’ve never sparred. No, not when I’ve been around.”
Usman is currently scheduled to fight Colby Covington in a rematch, at UFC 268 in November, this year.
Khabib, on the other hand, just signed a professional football contract with Russian Club FC Legion Dynamo Makhachkala.
Coach Javier Mendez who between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Kamaru Usman is the stronger one
After stating that he had never seen Usman and Khabib spar, Mendez went on to reveal who was the stronger one.
Mendez stated the obvious here, answering the question diligently. He went on to state the difference in weight class before concluding that it was all speculation until it really happens.
Mendez said:
“I don’t know. I mean, Kamaru Usman will go down as one of the greatest welterweights of all time. Khabib is the greatest lightweight of time. To me, he is the greatest pound-for-pound fighter of all time. And Kamaru, is a different weight class. Yeah man, I don’t know. Until you see it, it’s all speculation. “
