Conor McGregor will take on Dustin Poirier on the 10th of July in a trilogy fight at UFC 264
Only a month left before McGregor and Poirier settle their scores in their 7-year old rivalry. The scoreline currently reads 1-1 after Poirier’s recent knockout victory against The Irishman at UFC 257.
It was McGregor who took the lead in the rivalry when he knocked out Poirier in the very first round of their UFC 178 encounter back in September 2014.
And now, they are all set to book their ticket at UFC 264 for a lightweight title clash against newly-crowned champion Charles Oliveira.
With the trilogy inching closer, Number one ranked UFC welterweight Colby Covington shared his views on both McGregor and Poirier.
The Chaos slammed both McGregor and Poirier in an interview with Helen Yee.
Speaking about McGregor, Covington claimed that the Irishman was only fighting because of his pride and ego, and not due to his hunger for the sport.
“Everybody is talking about the conman McGregor. He’s washed up. Conor’s got nothing left in the tank. He doesn’t want to fight anymore. It is just his pride that is bringing him back. He has big pride and big ego. He can’t let his pride and ego go.”
Covington then destroyed Poirier verbally, after he showed (Helen Yee) an exclusive sparring clip of ‘The Diamond’ beating up an amateur during a sparring session and shouting, ‘And New!’
“Dustin Poirier is nothing more than a prick. He’s dropping a kid that shouldn’t even be training with him. A guy who’s an amateur, not ready for the professional level yet. You’re dropping, concussing the kid, hurting him. How much of a teammate are you Dustin that you scream in this kid’s face, ‘And New!'”
Covington then revealed that he would releasing the clip soon.
Colby Covington slams Dustin Poirier’s charity
Covington did not just stop there. He further took shots at the number one ranked lightweight, Dustin Poirier.
He even went to the extent of calling Poirier’s charity – The Good Fight Foundation, a tax write-off.
“Behind cameras he ain’t a nice guy. On cameras he acts, pretends like he is a father, good guy, ‘Oh my charity’, we all know his charity is a tax write-off.”
Covington is currently trying to land a rematch against Kamaru Usman.
