Colby Covington isn’t one bit impressed with the fight resume of Khamzat Chimaev
Khamzat Chimaev instilled fear in the hearts of fellow fighters, and took the UFC by storm after his whirlwind arrival in 2020.
‘The Borz’ made his UFC debut on the 16th of July 2020 and went 3-0 in just 2 months. He even fought twice in just a gap of 10 days, which is the record for quickest the turnaround between UFC wins in the modern era.
He has been out of action since September 2020, due to the lingering effects of the coronavirus. The Swede is expected to make a return soon.
Addressing the hype surrounding Chimaev, fellow UFC welterweight Colby Covington stated that he never even heard him (typical Covington), before going on an explosive rant about modern ‘hype-trains’.
Covington told James Lynch:
“I’ve never even heard of him. Does this guy have a ranked win yet? Oh, he doesn’t. Everybody’s hyping these kids up these days.”
Colby Covington claims the UFC is all about hype
Covington didn’t stop there. He cited Jorge Masvidal’s hype as an example, explaining how his hype ended after he was viciously knocked out by Kamaru Usman at UFC 261.
‘The Chaos’ made it clear that – beating nobodies would do nothing to one’s fight resume. Covington then pointed out to his own resume, claiming how he had beaten multiple champions.
Covington told James Lynch:
“That’s the state and age of the UFC (currently). It’s all about hype. There’s no credibility, I wouldn’t say there’s no credibility, I’m not talking about the organization — but the way people get the hype on them is just a complete joke. Go out there and show it with your resume. Look at my resume. Multiple UFC champions on it that I’ve beaten. When a guy decides to beat multiple UFC champions and starts beating the top guys in the world, then come holler at me, and I’ll hit you down a step.”
Covington is currently looking forward to fighting in a title match, since he is the number one ranked welterweight contender.
