Twitter went wild following the announcement of Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272
One of the biggest fights in the history of the UFC will soon go down. Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal will be headlining UFC 272 on the 5th of March, 2022 at the T-Mobile Arena.
The reason it is considered to be one of the biggest is due to the sheer rivalry between Covington and Masvidal. Once close friends, roommates, teammates and whatnot, they are probably the biggest rivals now.
The pair have very often trash-talked online over the years and now it is time to bring the heat inside the Octagon. The fight will be for five rounds.
Brett Okamoto of ESPN reported the news first after learning the same from UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell.
Both Covington and Masvidal are coming off losses – both against Kamaru Usman, at UFC 261 and UFC 269 respectively.
Via. a text, Covington had few words to say to his bitter rival.
“He better fucking show up.”
Twitter loses it following Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal announcement
Twitter went wild after the fight was announced. However, it was fellow welterweight Leon Edwards’ Tweet that caught everyone’s eye.
Edwards recently had his fight against Masvidal cancelled. He also has 9 wins in a row and is yet to get a title shot.
He tweeted:
“2 bums coming off losses.”
Despite no title being on the line, the rivalry and the animosity between the two alone is enough to soar the PPV buys.
