The number one ranked welterweight contender shared his thoughts on the upcoming Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier trilogy fight

Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier 3 is hardly a month away. In fact, it is the next big UFC event. The pair will headline UFC 264, which is set to take place in Las Vegas on the 10th of July.

A rematch was agree upon in the immediate aftermath, which was made official a few months later.

With the fight inching closer, number one ranked welterweight contender Colby Covington shared his prediction for the upcoming McGregor-Poirier trilogy fight.

Covington spoke about both the fighters’ current state before going on to give his prediction.

Speaking in an interview with Submission Radio, Covington said:

“If Conor can make the adjustments, if he can stay out of the way of the calf kicks. I see that as his path to victory. I think he is a hard puncher and he is a little bit more fluent on his feet. But, we’ll have to see which Conor shows up. Is it the motivated Conor of the past? Or the guy that has got a lot of money in his bank account, and there is no drive and fire in him anymore?”

Covington then spoke about Poirier, before going on to give his prediction. He explained that ‘The Diamond’ was more motivated than McGregor currently, and hence picked him to emerge victorious.

‘The Chaos’ was quoted as saying:

“If I have to bet on it, I’ll try and pick Dustin Poirier. I think he is a little bit better in his prime… You know, he is still slightly hungry.”

Covington is currently looking to rematch against Kamaru Usman, after managing to stay as the number one ranked welterweight following his defeat to the Nigerian at UFC 245.
