UFC star Colby Covington went on a rather bizarre rant hitting out at NBA superstar LeBron James during the UFC 272 ceremonial weigh-ins.
Colby Covington often grabs headlines for his outrageous comments and trash-talking. He was at it again on Friday night at the UFC 272 ceremonial weigh-ins.
This time, it was Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James who fell victim to his insults. ‘Chaos’ called LeBron James a ‘spineless coward’ after praising the armed forces in the United States. While James might have gathered that Covington’s insults may have been tongue in cheek, it appeared far from it due to the MMA stars’ tone.
Although the action and focus was supposed to be on the build-up to the main event fight between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal, fans on social media also couldn’t hide away from what the American fighter had to say about the four-time NBA champion.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan returned for the weigh-ins at UFC 272 and Covington looked pleased to meet the veteran host. When asked about his feelings on fighting Masvidal, Covington surprisingly fired shots at NBA superstar LeBron James
“First off, it’s so great to have you back, Joe Rogan. We love you at the UFC, we missed you. F*** cancel culture.” said Covington when he got the mic.
The MMA star then thanked the crowd for coming out in large numbers before taking a cheap shot at LeBron James. “Before I go, I want to say a big thank you to the real heroes and celebrities in this country. Not that woke, spineless coward like LeBron James. I’m talking about our heroes, law enforcement, military, our first responders. God bless you, God bless you all. God bless America.”
LeBron has a history with right-wing republicans and has had some drama in the past with Kyle Rittenhouse. Some fans may have presumed that Covington’s insult may have been directed at James because of the NBA star’s political views.
