Colby Covington has been firing shots at number one ranked lightweight contender Dustin Poirier of late

Dustin Poirier is just a month away from his trilogy fight against Conor McGregor at UFC 264. The fight is set to take place on the 10th of July in Las Vegas, with the winner getting the chance to fight Charles Oliveira.

Of late, Poirier has also expressed his desire to fight in the welterweight division (170lbs), which in fact is slightly close to his walk-around weight.

In the wake of this, number one ranked welterweight Colby Covington expressed his desire to welcome Poirier into the 170lbs division.

In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Covington tore into Poirier stating that the only reason that would prevent the fight from happening is Poirier being scared to face him.

‘The Chaos’ was quoted as saying:

““I would love to give that fight to the fans…If it doesn’t happen, it will be because Dustin’s scared and he doesn’t want to sign the dotted line. And that would be just as much of a victory, because everybody will know how much of a man I am and how much of a b*tch he is.”

Covington has been firing shots at Poirier of late, showing everyone who interviews him a video of Poirier beating up an amateur during a training session, ahead of his fight against Khabib Nurmgomedov in 2019.

Despite ripping apart Poirier, Covington claimed that ‘The Diamond’ had the edge for McGregor.

Covington told Submission Radio:

“If I have to bet on it, I’ll try and pick Dustin Poirier. I think he is a little bit better in his prime… You know, he is still slightly hungry.”
