Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather Jr was one of the biggest fights ever

UFC star Conor McGregor has confirmed that there will be a rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr soon.

Mayweather Jr had defeated McGregor in their only meeting which took place in a boxing ring. The fight happened in 2017 and was dubbed as the “Money Fight”.

Reports suggested that Mayweather Jr made a guaranteed $100million from the fight while McGregor made a guaranteed $30m. However, other reports suggested that each star made 2.5 times more when all the payments were checked out.

This was a typical boxing match and Mayweather won the clash in the 10th round via TKO. Recently, Mike Tyson has teased a return to boxing and was speaking about McGregor.

Iron Mike had some great things to say about Conor, and the Irishman responded on Twitter with a clip of the former boxer.

However, McGregor further claimed that a rematch with Mayweather would happen, and he now knows how to defeat him:

“Thank you Mike, and just know that for the inevitable rematch, with the knowledge I now hold of Floyd’s style, plus under the tutelage of my old school boxing coach, I will crack the puzzle, and I will beat Floyd. I promise my life on it.”

The logical step for McGregor?

The Irishman is in one of the toughest UFC divisions. Justin Gaethje and Khabib Nurmagomedov will meet for the undisputed Lightweight title after UFC 249 took place.

Tony Ferguson is still one of the top names in the division while we also have the likes of Dustin Poirier, Charles Oliveira and Dan Hooker.

It is unlikely that McGregor will get a shot at Khabib or Gaethje soon, so checking out other avenues makes sense.

Conor made a killing by fighting in the first clash, and another one would be a box office hit. It would be interesting to see if Mayweather Jr would try his hand out in MMA too. It is a little disadvantageous to McGregor if he has to box and Mayweather doesn’t get into the Octagon.

The American boxer is one of the greatest combat athletes too, and it will be interesting to see if this fight is confirmed soon.
