Khamzat Chimaev seems to have tested positive for Covid-19 and there are rumours of his fight against Leon Edwards getting cancelled
The much-awaited Khamzat Chimaev vs Leon Edwards fight might be cancelled after reports of a Covid-19 positive test.
Swedish outlet Kimura claimed that Chimaev had tested positive for Covid-19 and the fight against Edwards was cancelled.
This was one of the top fights to end the year with the pair to meet in mid-December. The report claims that the UFC are unsure of what to do regarding the clash and Chimaev had a bit of a fever.
The Swedish star is in isolation and it will be interesting to see what is next for the pair. This isn’t the first fight to be affected by Covid as each of the last two UFC cards have seen changes in the main event.
Curtis Blaydes tested positive just on the eve of his fight against Derrick Lewis while Kevin Holland will miss his battle against Jack Hermansson in the coming weeks too.
No response from Edwards
Noted MMA journalist Ariel Helwani was also asked about this clash and if Chimaev was out of the clash.
However, the ESPN journalist claimed that Edwards’ team didn’t know about the report from the Swedish outlet and added that there was no information from Chimaev’s team too.
Leon Edwards’ team said they haven’t been notified yet and the @kimurasweden report was the first they heard about it. Not saying it’s not true but that’s what they said. No word yet from Chimaev’s team. https://t.co/cArHHhpJmH

John Morgan of MMA Junkie, however, claimed that Chimaev was good to go for the December 19 fight and had spoken with the Swede’s team.
Chimaev’s team tells me that he is still “good to go” for Dec. 19 at this time. https://t.co/xFbFIBxRlF

The UFC haven’t opened up on this aspect and it is possible that Chimaev had tested positive a while back and should be alright for his fight in a couple of weeks.
Other reports have suggested that there are no truth to the rumours, and this puts the UFC in a tough spot.
Chimaev vs Edwards was one of the biggest clashes to end the year, and it would be a big blow if this fight is cancelled.
