Dustin Poirier got the better of Conor McGregor at UFC 257 and that saw Khabib Nurmagomedov rip into the Irishman
Conor McGregor was defeated by Dustin Poirier in shocking circumstances at UFC 257.
Not many expected Poirier to get the KO over McGregor. However, The Diamond used a ton of leg kicks to first nullify McGregor’s movement and a flurry of punches in the second round was enough to get the win.
This was one of the biggest rematches in the history of the UFC and Khabib Nurmagomedov was also watching.
The Russian retired from the company but claimed he could return if someone impressed him. The Lightweight Champion still isn’t keen on making a comeback after the win, but he called out McGregor for his preparation leading up to this fight:
“This is what happened, when you change your team, leave the sparring partners who made you a champion and sparring with little kids, far away from reality.”
Khabib and McGregor had a huge rivalry before the Russian defeated McGregor a couple of years back.
This wasn’t the best performance from McGregor but the Irishman didn’t hold back in the press conference.
Come out and fight
Khabib has been teasing a return but seems unlikely to do that now. However, McGregor wasn’t pleased with the comments from Khabib and ripped into the Russian:
Dana White has been trying to goad Khabib into returning, and it will be interesting to see what is next for McGregor.
It is normal for him to hit back after such a devastating loss, but he was magnanimous in defeat as he met Poirier after the clash.
McGregor vs Khabib 2 would be quite a blockbuster and would sell quite a lot of PPVs. However, Khabib doesn’t seem interested in doing rematches and even White trying to sell this fight might not work.
