Just when things were shaping out very well, Conor McGregor has called off his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier, via Twitter.
Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier were expected to face off in a trilogy bout on the 10th of July, later this year. Dustin had evened out the rivalry, earlier this year at UFC 257, knocking out McGregor in their rematch.
Their rematch at UFC 257 was also for a good cause, as McGregor had agreed to donate a staggering $500,000 to Dustin’s ‘The Good Fight Foundation’.
However, all hell broke loose recently, as The Diamond revealed via. Twitter that Conor and his team made no contact regarding the payment, while also warning McGregor that he would beat him, come the 10th of July.
After a bit of back and forth on Twitter, with McGregor’s manager Audie Attar chiming in as well, the Irishman went full ‘Notorious Mode’ as he ripped into his rival, adding that he would be fighting someone else on the 10th of July.
“You鈥檙e ripped you inbred hillbilly. Why do you wink with your ears? You fucking brain dead hillbilly. 500k with no plan in place. Ye hang tight. Fool. You must be new to money. The fight is off btw. I鈥檓 going to fight someone else on the 10th. Good luck on your old contract kid.”
This didn’t sit well with Poirier, as he wasted no time in replying with a GIF of McGregor getting slept by him, at UFC 257.
Conor then replied with a thumbs up, posting an image of himself knocking out Dustin at UFC 178, with the caption, “Smell ya later pea.”

Well, that’s Conor back to his usual self. While all these might be true, there is a small possibility that this is all a part of the buildup to the trilogy bout. Only time will tell!
And, if Conor is being serious, he does have quite a lot of options to have a go at; viz. Justin Gaethje, Tony Ferguson, Charles Oliveira, Michael Chandler. It is to be noted that the Irishmanhas never faced any of the aforementioned fighters.
Just minutes after the banter between McGregor and Poirier concluded, UFC newcomer Chandler, who is set to take on Oliveira at UFC 262 for the vacant lightweight title, stepped in.
He tweeted that he was ready to fight McGregor on the 10th of July, while also asking the UFC to book the fight.
But, will Iron Mike get past Oliveira first?
