Conor McGregor was recently handed the Key to the City of Miami
There is hardly a week that goes by without Conor McGregor in the spotlight. Just a couple of weeks ago, the Irishman had a ‘Notorious’ scuffle with rapper Machine Gun Kelly at the VMAs.
And now, he is back in the news once again. This time for something prestigious. He has been handed the Key to the City of Miami by Miami’s Mayor, Francis X. Suarez.
Key to the City – What once meant as the freedom (of the recipient) to enter and leave the city at will, now means giving someone extra respect.
McGregor took to social media to share exclusive photos from his meeting with the Mayor of Miami.
An honoured McGregor thanked the Mayor:
“The Key to the City of Miami. Thank you Mayor Suarez for bestowing this great honor upon me and with my family present to witness. God bless you and this incredible city. May the spirit of Miami live within us all.”
He also took to Instagram to thank the Mayor’s hospitality and how proud a moment it was for him, and his family:
“The Mac with The Key to The City of Miami! Thank you Mayor Suarez for bestowing this great honor upon me and with my family present to witness. A very proud moment for me in my life. Thank you! Your hospitality and care for my family and team will be forever remembered. God Bless you and this great city! May the spirit of Miami live within us all
Fans on Twitter and Instagram were confused as to why McGregor was handed the Key to the City of Miami in particular. ‘Mystic Mac’ has never competed in Miami, or has no association with the City of Miami.
Conor McGregor called UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski an ‘old fart’ during the latter’s matchup against Brian Ortega in the main event of UFC 266.
Taking to Twitter (now-deleted Tweet) McGregor wrote:
“I’d kick this volovski head off like it was a rugby ball I was kicking. 5’4! And full of muscle! Hahahahaha little fart he is. Not even a little fart. A shart haahahahaj jackass.”
Volkanovski went on to win the event and eventually retain his featherweight title.
