Conor McGregor was all praise for fellow lightweight Michael Chandler
Conor McGregor was full of praise for fellow lightweight Michael Chandler. The Irishman, as is customary, took to Twitter for an hour of Q & A – #AskNotorious.
McGregor was asked about his opinion on Michael Chandler. He replied that ‘Iron Mike’ could have even been a UFC champion currently.
“Hard not to be impressed. In a game of inches he has been incredibly close each time! Could well be today’s champion.”
Chandler fought for the vacant lightweight at UFC 262. He took on Charles Oliveira and came inches close to winning the title after knocking the Brazilian down in the first round.
However, Chandler was not able to get the finish. Oliveira bounced back strongly in the second round to knock Chandler out. The fight could have gone either way.
More recently, Chandler fought Justin Gaethje at UFC 268. In what is considered to be a Fight of the Year Contender, Chandler ended up losing via. unanimous decision.
A win here would have put Chandler’s title chase back on track.
Michael Chandler lauds Conor McGregor for the competitor he is
Hardly a week ago, Michael Chandler had a lot of nice things to say about Conor McGregor.
In an appearance on Bussin’ with The Boys, Chandler hit out at people discrediting McGregor, calling them casuals and haters.
He was quoted as saying:
“His mental awareness capacity and stability inside of the octagon, inside the confines of competition, especially with how heightened the stakes and the senses are inside of his fights while everybody in the entire world is watching, is something to behold, man. He’s a different level of competitor, and anybody who discredits him because he’s lost fights is just either a casual or a Conor hater, to be honest with you.” [via MMA Mania]
