Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier are set to face off in a trilogy bout on the 10th of July at UFC 264
Conor McGregor will be looking forward to getting the upper hand, in his rivalry with Dustin Poirier which began almost 7 years ago.
The pair first faced off at UFC 178 in September 2014, and McGregor won the fight via. first round knockout.
More than 6 years later, Poirier exacted revenge at UFC 257, with a second-round knockout. This was the first time McGregor was ever finished in his MMA career.
A rematch was agreed on the immediate aftermath, and was made official a few months later.
With the fight hardly 25 days away, McGregor has fired a new warning to Poirier like he has been doing regularly, of late.
Taking to Instagram, McGregor posted a picture of himself landing a clean right on Poirier at UFC 257.
He captioned the post: “25 days I finish the job.”
Drew Dober who recently lost to Brad Riddell in the prelims card of UFC 263, expressed his desire to be the backup fighter in the McGregor-Poirier trilogy.
When asked during UFC 263 media day about his dream fight in the lightweight division, Dober said:
“Dustin Poirier is incredible. I would love to exchange with him. Conor McGregor (as well). If they’re looking for a backup depending on how Saturday night goes, I would love to be a backup for that fight.. The reason why I’m trying to get the win streak going and put the performances together because these are the type of guys I want to exchange with and put on shows for you.”
The UFC have been actively searching for a backup fighter for the trilogy fight for quite a while. However, no backup fighter has been named yet.
